Tsuji is not just another name in Japanese matcha. He stands in a category so rare it almost sounds unreal: the only recipient in Japan’s history to receive the Emperor’s Award for matcha. That kind of recognition is not marketing language. It is the result of soil, discipline, obsession, and generations of quiet mastery.

Kiyoharu Tsuji at his fields in Shirakawa

His fields are treated the old way — with respect, patience, and natural nourishment. Herring and other traditional ingredients are used as fertilizer, feeding the soil slowly and deliberately. Nothing rushed. Nothing artificial in spirit. Just the kind of farming that understands great tea begins long before the leaves are picked.

And then there is Uji. For matcha, no terroir in the world carries the same weight. The name is known everywhere, but the truth is far more intimate: real Uji tea is produced in impossibly small quantities. Scarce, coveted, and deeply tied to place — this is matcha from the source, not the imitation of it.

This is a very rare Ujihikari blend. First Harvest , Tezumi , triple shade grown tea. This cultivar is exclusive to the Uji region and is considered one of the rarest out of all matcha.

This ultra-rare Ujihikari–Samidori blend delivers a luxurious drinking experience: smooth, vibrant, deeply umami, and beautifully balanced with a natural sweetness and refined finish. Best enjoyed as usucha to appreciate its purity, aroma, and exceptional cultivar character.

  • I was truly impressed with Shōgun Matcha! The creamy texture and the perfect balance of sweet, floral, and earthy flavors give this matcha a unique depth. The vibrant green color is a clear sign of its premium quality. It's a daily ritual I look forward to – whether I drink it straight or in a latte. The fact that it's sourced from the prestigious farms in Uji, Kyoto makes it even more special. Highly recommend for matcha lovers!

  • I’ve been a matcha drinker for years, but Shōgun Matcha takes it to a whole new level. From the moment I opened the tin, the vibrant green color was a clear indicator of its top-tier quality. The taste is unlike any other – it’s creamy, smooth, and perfectly balanced with sweet floral notes and just the right amount of earthy richness. The umami flavor lingers beautifully, and every sip feels like an ancient ritual. Sourced from the prestigious Uji farms in Kyoto, this matcha has such an authentic, rich flavor that no other brand can match. Whether I enjoy it straight or as a latte, it’s an invigorating experience every time. A must-try for anyone serious about matcha!

  • I've tried several matcha brands before, but none compare to Shōgun Matcha. The moment I tasted it, I knew I was experiencing something special. The balance of sweet and earthy flavors is just perfect, and the creamy texture makes every sip feel indulgent. Knowing it's sourced directly from Uji, Kyoto, and stone-milled adds authenticity and quality that you can taste. This matcha is truly in a league of its own.
